Spring Fling!

Leave it to Martha to make exactly what I've been looking for. Martha Stewart, that is! I've been looking, and looking, and looking for a new duvet for our bedroom, so much so, I wanted to vomit. We've had ours for almost 5 years now, and it's getting ratty, faded, and boring. Zzzzzzzzzzz....
Then Will decided to have some cherry tomatoes and use it as a napkin... Lovely. After spraying it, treating it, and washing it to death, the cherry tomato shmear did not want to come out. Oh Darn! Time to shop!

When Lani told me she scored on some Martha sheets at Macy's (check out her Holey Sheet expedition here), I thought I'd cruise on over and see what they had in the duvet sector.

I tried this West Elm duvet on sale right after Christmas. After getting it home & laying it out, it was just too green and bright for my taste. I wanted pattern, but this pattern was too IN-MY-FACE. Hubby got home and said something to the effect of "Is this staying?". That was reason enough to send it on back...

Will and I took a quick detour to Macy's. The choices! Our bedroom has NO pattern. Here's a quick before:

I was looking for something subtle. Something organic. Something maybe a little feminine without being pink and foofy. I was kind of on the right track with the West Elm mishap, as far as pattern went. The contrast between the color and the pattern was just too drastic.

While wandering the aisles at Macy's, I came across these:

I let out a crazy lady happy squeal when I turned the corner and saw these. I have a sweet spot for trees and all things leaf-related, and green is my new...teal.

Another turn of the rack, and I saw this:

Hmmm...that just might work. I'll admit, it wasn't love at first sight. The throw pillows are what sealed the deal, even though I didn't pick them up (yet). The price is what really pushed me over the top. $77.99 for the king duvet, 2 king shams, 2 euro shams, & a bed skirt. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! Better yet, I had a $50 gift card! $30 out of pocket sounds a-ok to me! I didn't use the king shams or the bed skirt. Maybe someday, when we upgrade to a king bed, I'll bust those out and mix it up with another set... someday...

The more I looked at it, the more I fell in love. I got it home, laid it on the bed (unwashed) just so see how I liked the all over pattern. A few hours later and a few passes back and forth in and out of my room, I was sold. Hubby didn't hate it. He actually didn't say much about it. No gruff about it means smooth sailing in our house! (I'm sure he was just tired of hearing about it, so if he didn't hate it, he was fine with it). And here she is:

We have a queen size bed, but a king duvet, for 2 reasons. #1 - it gives it a fuller look. #2 - There are more covers to go around. When you've got a husband that steals covers, and a toddler that likes to come into your bed, you need all of the extra extras you can get!

The reversible aspect felt a little middle school to me at first, but now, I'm diggin' it. When I want to change up the look, I can flip it over, and add a few new accents.

I wasn't too sure about switching the euro shams out, but I like the subtle details and the colors are so muted, it's that perfect little change. And I like dots.

Next on my list for the bedroom is to switch out the backing on my silver dollars, and maybe recover or get new lamp shades. If I recover them, I'll probably use Nate Berkus' tried & true tip of accenting with some grosgrain ribbon. I think that's his favorite tip... It could almost be a drinking game...

Not a bad price to pay for a super quick bedroom makeover!
