Early Resolution

Great message for everyone working towards a goal.

(all pictures from pinterest)

So I kinda mentioned this in an earlier post, but I think it’s official.  I think I’m training for a marathon!  I know, I know…think?  Well, I get nervous about trying new things.  I get nervous about having goals.  Isn’t that silly?  But I do.  I get nervous that I go full force into something and then end up disappointing myself and everyone.  I always feel like SOMETHING gets in the way…my back goes out and then I’m out for a week or two, somebody gets sick, we go somewhere….yada yada yada blah…

SO I started this a little differently than I normally do.  I think Heather and I have been talking about doing a half marathon for about 2 years now.  And MY personal goal?  It was to lose weight.  You know…that ever hanging over my belly baby weight that after 2 kids is just not where I want to be.  So instead of me concentrating on that…I am concentrating on the mileage.  On finishing.  THAT’S my goal.  I decided to not let the weight be any kind of factor in whether I continue or not.  In the past…if I wasn’t losing fast enough I would say WTF and basically quit.  Not this time.

I have to say…just switching that mind set has helped.  I have to get up at 5 am to run because Sonny leaves for work between 6 and 6:15 and I have to be back at that time.  I am running in the gym, as it’s pitch black outside, and doing my long runs on Sundays outside when Sonny is home watching the kids.  The fact that I’m saying to myself “dang…I have to get up to complete my mileage for today” versus “Aw man…I have to get up to lose 5 lbs.  Well…I just will eat lettuce today.”  It makes such a difference.  I feel more accomplished when I finish my daily mileage because it’s instant gratification.  Who knows how long it will take to lose those 5, 10, or 15 lbs.!

So I’m doin’ it.  I’m going for it.  The run is March 25th, and I’m going to get it done.  This is something that I want to do for myself.  I have a feeling that 2012 is going to be a banner year, with lots of goals accomplished…and I definitely want this to be the motivation behind all my other resolutions to say “Hey, Lani….you ran a marathon…the rest of the stuff should be simple compared to that! Let’s accomplish the rest of the list!!”  My goals this year are hard, and they are going to be tough…but I want to accomplish them more than anything.  I’m putting myself on a spending freeze to build our account back up, and I’m determined to make our house a better, safer, healthier home.  And somehow, for me…all those goals seem easy to accomplish with the marathon looming.  So if I can do this…I feel I can do anything!  And hey…if a few extra pounds happen to fall off…it’s just a bonus!
