Birthday DIYs

To cut costs and to get the look I wanted for Will's party, I made a couple of things myself. I am a paper hoarder. There, I've said it. Once in a while when I get the bug, I go to my favorite scrapbookin' store(s) and buy a bunch of paper that just strikes my fancy. Sometimes I have a project in mind, and other times, not so much. I'm a Disney girl, so anything Mickey that is graphic and modern is usually in my basket. I also pick up some other fun stuff maybe for documenting our travels, or baby stuff, or maybe a fun birthday card to send off to a friend. So thankfully, I remembered my good ol' stash after I finished the "Happy" of Will's banner. I found a few papers that were perfect to finish up the "Birthday William".
I busted out my Cricut and Gypsy. The Gypsy made sure that I used every last scrap possible for my sign. I think in total, I used one or one and a half 12"x12" sheets of scrapbook paper for the letters. I even used up some of the scraps from his invites for the one letter or little balloon I wanted to add to the sign that didn't quite fit on the big page. It really makes me happy to not waste a single inch of paper. This was a super inexpensive project since I pretty much had all of the materials. I spent an afternoon cutting out the letters and shapes for backing. I spent about an hour after Will went to bed gluing and assembling. The ribbon was the only part that I had to buy because I wanted Mickey ribbon. I bought 2 spools since each one only had 9' of ribbon on it. I wasn't quite sure how we were going to hang it at the party, so I strung each word on it's own piece and left a chunk at the end to either tie or cut. I was so thrilled with the end result. I think this might be the coolest thing I've ever made. I just looked on etsy and there are banners similar going for $30+! Holy Moly!

I also made a sign for the turn into the parking lot. It is a little hidden, so I figured a sign would help out. Also another very cute but inexpensive project. A large piece of foam core board, two wooden dowels that are $0.99 each at most, and I just cut out "Will's Party" for it. Less than $5 for a sign that makes everyone's lives a little easier. I also tied balloons to it to help grab some extra attention. I didn't get a picture of it, but it's similar in idea to the one I made for Lani's Sprinkle. I used a white background with red, yellow, and blue letters. Of course there was a Mickey head on it, too. I actually just used an extra one I had cut from doing his invites.
