Nap time curveball

Lani warned me about this a few months ago and I have been dreading it ever since...the Nap Time Curveball. Just when I have this 3 nap schedule down pat, Will is ready to ditch one of his naps and is down to 2 naps. We had the 2 nap schedule down pretty good for about a week and a half. Just when I thought we were in the clear, BAM! curveball and now we have been back to three naps (sometimes 4) for the last 4 days.

I'm sure it's all part of the adjustment. And I'm sure that there's a few other factors that are making this transition a little more funky - such as the bottom tooth that has been on the brink of breaking through his gums for 3 weeks now. He also woke up with a runny nose yesterday that went away. Two days ago he woke up with a touch of a fever that caused me to cancel my sushi dinner date night with Yvett at the last minute (sorry again!).

The major bummer is that his naps used to be 1.5-2 hours which gave me time to clean up the breakfast or lunch mess, shower, and pick up the house to get ready for round 2. Now I'm lucky if his naps are an hour long. It also makes getting out of the house a real challenge because by the time you clean up, get yourself cleaned up, and get ready to go, it's nap time again. I'd rather sacrifice getting out of the house for my baby to get some good rest, but come on!

Any advice or tricks for surviving the nap switch? I'm more than happy to take them! Oh, and that is his new face...the scrunch face. I have no idea where he learned it, but he does it randomly and it's the funniest thing. Sometimes it's accompanied by a grunt to make you think he's filling up is diaper, but he's not... Crazy kid!

  1. My one suggestion is to gradually increase his awake time in the morning and to try and stick to a routine. Like if you and him are ready for the 2 naps....keep him up an extra 15 minutes in the morning for a week...then increase again the next week. Next thing you know he'll be so tired that he'll be sleeping about 1.5 hrs or so that first nap, and then the second will be like a cat nap. If you keep increasing his awake time GRADUALLY, then before you know it he'll be going down around noon and up at 2 or 3 and he'll be down to one nap! But I'd try to stick to a firm schedule to get it down. that's all I can offer!! <3

  2. My poor little guy! I know its rough for them..they have teeth coming in, naps they don't wanna take and then bam they are exhausted from running around, teething and those naps they missed. No fun. For anyone. Hope it gets better Chica! Don't worry we'll make up for sushi after our MASSAGE! WAHOO!
